Frankfurt Show 2011 Highlights: Subaru BRZ Prologue Concept

Subaru has lifted the lid off its its all-new coupé – now officially named BRZ - at the Frankfurt motor show with a new technology concept.

The Frankfurt concept is a development of the clear plastic-bodied concept at this year’s Geneva motor show that showcased Subaru’s involvement in the coupé it has co-developed with Toyota: the four-cylinder boxer engine, chassis and suspension package.

BRZ stands for “boxer engine, rear-wheel-drive, zenith”, with the latter word claimed to embody Subaru’s “ultimate passion” for the new baby sports coupé.

The clear plastic body of the Geneva concept gave an indication of the styling of the BRZ. Toyota also brought the latest version of the co-developed coupe, called FT-86, to Geneva which gave “the clearest indication yet of the final design for Toyota’s next sports car”.

The final production version of the car will be revealed at the Tokyo motor show in November, with sales to follow in 2012. Production will take place at Subaru’s Gumma plant in Japan.
